Conjecture 2009 ā 48th National Australian Science Fiction Convention ā will be held in Adelaide over the Queen's Birthday Weekend, 5- 8 June 2009, at the Holiday Inn, Hindley Street, Adelaide. The professional Guest of Honour is Jule Czerneda, a Canadian speculative fiction writer whose first science fiction novel set in the Trade Pact Universe of her own creation, was the evocatively titled A THOUSAND WORDS FOR STRANGER published by DAW Books. The website at <http://conjecture2009.org> has been updated. Regular updates will follow, scheduled for each Tuesday. Membership fees will be a price rise of $20 for each membership category effective from after Easter. So if you are attending Swancon 2009 which will be held in Perth during the Easter holiday weekend, then that could be your last chance to join in person. Meanwhile you can use the Paypal facility on the website to join online (click on 'Membership'). There hasn't been a natcon (short for National Australian Science Fiction Convention, of course) held in Adelaide since 1985 and twenty-four years is a long time between imbiding beverages. There will be discussion panels, talks, short films, displays, and masquerade on Saturday night. |

Robert V.S. Redick The continuing saga of the great ship Chathrand - not since Robin Hobb has fantasy taken to the waves in such high style. The latest novel in Robert V.S Redick's stunning and original fantasy epic is a taut race against time that takes the Chathrand across the seas in a desperate bid to stop the sorcerer Arunis unleashing the Swarm of Night. From the mysterious River of Shadows to the Infernal Forest, to the Island Wilderness, Pazel and his companions face a phantasmogoric journey through altered realities, a nightmare journey which offers glimpses of what might have been while taking them into the terror of what is to come. Will Arunis use the cursed Nilstone to end the world? This is a rich fantasy of nightmares and unexpected beauty and is proof positive that Redick is one of the most exciting new talents in fantasy. |
